NOTTINGHAM CULINAIRE

Located within walking distance of a vibrant downtown, this 1936 brick Colonial underwent a 450 sq. ft. renovation to create a true gathering kitchen. Originally, the space was divided into a series of tight rooms—a galley kitchen, breakfast nook, office, and powder room. To serve a 21st-century family of four, the home needed to open up and function as a central hub for daily life.

Design details from past and present are thoughtfully woven together, balancing historic charm with purposeful modernity. Honeycomb ceramic flooring, arched valance toe kicks, inset cabinetry, pocket doors, and the preservation of original character elements all honor the home’s origins. In contrast, layered lighting, ergonomic planning, integrated hardware, and updated fixtures support contemporary living.

The transformation centers on a generous island, surrounded by custom cabinetry that provides multiple prep and serving zones. The new layout maximizes natural light, improves flow, and incorporates discreet storage throughout. Additional features include a pantry, lounge area, dog-food station, and an offset powder room—creating a warm, functional space that truly feels like a welcome home.
